Grinder ReviewAn oyster.....the content and verbiage of which is raw, thought provoking and littered with pearls in the form of vernacular quips. Some will find this work, presumably the author's first, an 'acquired' taste and stylistically it will not resonate with all. However, unlike the more commercialized novels employing the public vs. private golf setting as a backdrop (there are many), Grinder comes across as real....the protagonist is known to us through our own experiences...or more probably IS us to varying degrees. It not only resonates by capturing many of our own internal thoughts as we address the burdens of expectation, unrealized talent, disappointment and apathy, but it articulates them as if transcribed directly from the brain without the dilutive prose. Where does one find his/her existential tonic? Does it exist? How many times do we get off the 'mat' in search of it? Do we allow ourselves to hope? These themes are handled in a genuine, unexpurgated manner resulting in a quick, enjoyable journey.
