Here Lies Kansas City ReviewI read this book a very long time ago and still recall it as vividly as if I had read it yesterday. "Here Lies Kansas City" gives a page-long sketch about many luminary figures from Kansas City's history.
From Francois Chouteau and his wife Bernice (namesake of Chouteau Trafficway and the Choueteau Bridge), Thomas Johnson (namesake for Johnson County, Kansas), and Dr. Benoist Troost (namesake for Troost Avenue and Elementary School) to 20th century luminaries like Thomas Hart Benton, J.C. Hall, and Satchel Paige, this book features figures from all periods of the city's history through publication. What is most impressive in this regard, is that the biographical sketches duly acknowledge each individual's contribution to the city's history while also serving as an epitaph of sorts for them. This in conjunction with the gravestone photography makes this book a must-read (if not a slightly morbid one) for anybody interested in those who helped to put the city on the map.Here Lies Kansas City Overview
